Trademark protection is the essential step in trademark registration. Trademark protection gives you the protection you need for your registered trademark. With trademark protection your trademark will be compared to all the newly requested trademarks in the trademark register. You will receive a monthly overview from Ligo in your dashboard of all newly requested trademarks which are similar (conflicting). This way you will know when someone else is trying to register a conflicting trademark. Because you will be warned in time, you can quickly take action.

Don’t you have trademark protection? This means that you will have to investigate yourself whether or not there are conflicting trademarks. This will take a lot of time that you want to spend on something else. It is also possible to forget to check, because of the amount of work or the lack of time. What happens then? This will give someone else the opportunity to register a trademark, because there has been no objection lodged by you. The only possibility to protect your trademark is to go to court. This will mean extra costs and a lot of work. Starting a legal procedure is more expensive than lodging an objection with the trademark register or negotiations. These unnecessary costs will be averted with trademark protection.

For every trademark it will be possible to (depending on the scope of your registration) lodge an objection 2-3 months before registration. It will be possible for older trademarks to lodge an objection. Because you will be notified in time of conflicting trademarks, it will be possible to lodge an objection in time or start negotiations with the other party. This will make sure that you can protect your trademark before another party can register a conflicting trademark.

As long as you have a registered trademark, it is possible to protect your trademark. Your trademark registration will be valid for 10 years, but can be extended indefinitely.
